Ross Creek Gallery presents local painter, Rachel Turner.
Artist statement:
“Why make things plain when you can choose not to! Turner’s practice speaks to the emotion of colour and marks made bold. Working in a somewhat naïve style and looking to legendary artists such as Fred Williams and Ken Done, Turner’s paintings are a connection and reflection of place and country without being prescriptive, consistently choosing to be anything but plain.
This current body of work is concerned with storytelling- a simple beginning, but stories can take you down many paths. Ultimately though, all of Turner’s works are about connecting to her current mental space, combined with concrete places and encompassing the romantic notions we seek in day-to-day living.”
Turner acknowledges the lands on which she lives and works- belonging to the Dja Dja Wurrung people of the Kulin Nation. She pays respects to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and Elders and recognises that sovereignty was never ceded.’
