Workshops
Want an excuse to escape Melbourne for a day and learn something new working with your hands? You cannot go past Paul Ryle’s therapeutic and meditative one day spoon carving workshops. Set on his idyllic country property in Buninyong, just outside of Ballarat, Paul will teach you how to carve a spoon from a solid piece of timber using nothing but his awesome collection of axes, chisels and knives. And at the end of the day, you will leave with your very own unique handcrafted spoon.
Paul runs spoon carving and other green woodworking courses throughout the year in Buninyong, just outside of Ballarat. Students work with freshly cut timber and a few simple hand tools. Classes are conducted in Paul’s carefree outdoor workshop, or in the shed with its wood fired stove during the colder seasons.
All tools and materials will be supplied. Participants will need to bring a packed lunch. Tea and coffee are included. Dress appropriately. Canvas aprons provided. All timber is locally salvaged from arborists. You will leave with your handcrafted spoon and an information sheet including tips on tools, books and resources to continue your woodworking ways.
